Beltagy Beaten in Prison; Affirms Triumph Over Injustice and Oppression

From his solitary confinement cell in Tora Prison, Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, leader of the Anti-Coup, Pro-Democracy National Alliance and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said: "Soon, truth will triumph over falsehood, justice over injustice, freedom over repression and oppression, civil power over military force, democracy over the coup, the people over the pharaoh, and peacefulness over brutal murder and arson.
Meanwhile, Sayed Taha, Dr. Beltagy’s lawyer, affirmed that the putschists’ security apparatus assaulted Beltagy, both physically and psychologically, and that when he asked the investigator to document the barbaric assaults, he refused and said, "This is not my job".
Dr. Beltagy’s lawyer further revealed that an Interior Ministry senior official visited Beltagy in his prison cell, and poured abuse at him, cursing his mother using the filthiest and most obscene expletives.
Taha also confirmed that Dr. Beltagy was beaten at the prison and his eyeglasses were smashed, and that he refused to complete the investigation because he does not recognize the authority of the coup.
