Blogger Adel Started an Open Strike

Mohammed Adel, blogger and chief editor of “Meit” Blog and the one accused of sneaking into Palestine illegally, the case in which Dr. Gamal Abdel Salam (Manager of Relief and Emergency Committee at the Federation of Arab Doctors) who was released around a month ago,as well as blogger Abdel Aziz Mogahed were accused. Mohammed has declared an open-ended strike because of his continued detention under inhuman conditions.

Meanwhile, the State Security Prosecution decided to continue detention of Mohamed Adel in the 5th area, on Sunday 22nd February headed by Attorney General Hisham Badawy.

It is worth noting that Adel was kidnapped in Cairo on 20.11.2008 where he was detained for 17 days during which he was tortured at the hands of the state security officer when a decision of arrest from the Ministry of Interior was issued and he was sent to the prison of Agriculture in a solitary confinement all the time until he was released by northern Cairo Criminal Court after spending 70 days in solitary confinement on 27.01.2009, after Adel’s lawyer appealed to the Ministry of Interior to release him.

The blogger still suffers from the same poor conditions he faced during his detention which led to sharp criticism to Egyptian authorities.
