Brotherhood: Salvation Front’s Shura Siege Call is Blatant Intimidation of Legislative Authority

The Muslim Brotherhood stressed that the National Salvation Front (NSF)’s call for protesters to besiege the Shura Council, as it holds its first session to discuss the Judicial Authority Law, is unacceptable intimidation of the legislative authority and a dangerous sign of how the opposition is now dealing with events.

In a press statement Tuesday, Yasser Mehrez, the Brotherhood’s media spokesman, said: "This call is incompatible with the principles of democracy. Blockading Shura Council’s building is a serious escalation against the legislative power.

"The call to lay siege to the Council comes as a continuation of the contradictory positions of the NSF, which earlier criticized the siege of the Constitutional Court, even though it was peaceful."

Mehrez further said, "The judicial authority law and the purification of the justice system of corruption are but one of the demands of the January 25 Revolution. However, NSF leaders have now shunned this demand, as they continue to support the former public prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, who was one of the reasons behind the ‘festival of acquittals’ for all the symbols of the former regime."
