Brotherhood MP Calls on Gov’t to Fight Sexual Harassment of Tourists

Mohsen Radi (member of the MB parliamentary bloc) has criticized the passive attitude of the Ministry of Tourism in preventing sexual harassment of female Tourists in Egypt.

He submitted an urgent inquiry to the Minister of Tourism regarding the ministry”s role in fighting the “catastrophe” of sexual harassment, which made the British Government Issue a warning for British tourists against possible sexual harassment they may face in Egypt.

The warning statement was submitted to the London-based Egyptian Tourism Office and to the head of Tourism Promotion Authority to respond by a comprehensive report about the procedures adopted by the ministry to fight the problem of sexual harassment.

However, Radi indicated that the officials’ response regarding this issue is “disappointing.”

“They appointed low ranking officials to handle the issue, although they are incapable of decision-making. The government”s disrespect of such sensitive issues may lead to drastic consequences, including the failure of Tourism media campaigns which cost the government $99 millions in six months,” Rady said in Saturdy”s session.

But the campaign failed to prevent the issuance of such warnings, he added.
