Dr. Ibrahim Al-Gaafari (member of the MB parliamentary bloc and member of the Arab Affairs Committee) has strenuously denounced the statements made by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmad Abul-Gheit for the London- based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Friday regarding what he called the “fascinating idea” of sending Arab troops to Gaza.
In a statement to the bloc”s website, Al-Gaafari described the statement as “rejected and unhelpful” statement indicating that Gaza status quo is not in need for the Arab troops. Moreover, such troops will help aggravate the crisis rather than settling it.
“If the Arabs are quite kind and merciful, Why don”t they seek ending the siege on Gaza?” he inquired.
Abul-Gheit has told the London- based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the idea of sending Arab troops to Gaza to end the internal clashes as well as settling the Palestine- Israel conflict is a fascinating idea that should be seriously adopted.
He disclosed that the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has stressed in a phone call that the US seeks to conduct Israeli- Palestinian written agreement late in September.
The Emeriti Al-Khaleej newspaper indicated that Egypt and Saudi Arabia have crystallized a plan for sending Arab troops to Gaza led by Egyptian officers.
Israeli sources said that Israel knows that the Arab League studies the idea.
