Bulgaria’s first Muslim Political Party is slammed by opposition facing its first constitutional challenge.

Bulgaria has reported the founding of its first ever Muslim Party. For the first time in history the party named “Muslim Democratic Party” will be working along side the other eight Christian Political parties in Bulgaria.

The party’s founders and Well-known brothers Ali Yuzeirov and Yuzeir Yuzeirov founded the Union with 680 written declarations while Ali Yuzeirov was elected party Chairman.

The Party leader who is  a native Turk has stressed that his party will be serving one and all and would fight for the rights of all of Bulgaria’s citizens regardless of their religion. The party was open for any members to join as long as they adhered to the morals and principles of Islam; however reports have stated that it appears membership is open only to Muslims.

The party will be financed by funds from businesses run by its members. Yuzeir Yuzeirov proudly told the Bulgarian National Radio that in just one day the party collected 2800 signatures and was optimistic that the 5000 signatures needed in order to register officially as a Party will be collected without problems.

The Party’s founding however has not been without hitches where there have been challenges by Krasimir Karakachanov, leader of the Bulgarian nationalist party VMRO, who has slammed the founding of the new Muslim Democratic Union claiming that a Turkish party on an ethnic basis in Bulgaria, is a provocation to the citizens of the Republic of Bulgaria,” adding that “the establishment of such an organization can only lead to ethnic tension and mistrust.”
