Chairman of MB Mr. Akef issued a statement following the elections of the new Executive Guidance Bureau.

The Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement Mr Mohamed Mahdi Akef issued a statement to the members of the movement and to the public following the elections of the new Executive Guidance Bureau.

He asserted that despite the hardships in which the movement have faced  and still is currently facing the group will continue in its cause. Akef stressed that the path chosen although not easy will be rewarding stating that the Movement advocates freedom of speech, human rights and most importantly democracy. The Brotherhood has sought to follow the ideology of its founder Imam Hassan al-Banna which promotes reform and progress through moderate Islamic teachings hoping to make Egypt and the Arab and Muslim world a more agreeable place to exist.

The chairman commended the group on handling its hardships since the last year has seen an escalation of hostility by the ruling regime.  “This year has been impregnated with many obstacles, starting with the defamation by the media of honourable and distinguished hard working citizens in numerous cases, proceeding to the arrests and storming of homes of many innocent members of the MB group yet we have stoically withheld and will continue to do so”.

The Movement has had to tolerate animosity by the regime however we remain committed to the democratic process despite this intense repression. The new Executive Guidance Bureau and myself, pray that Allah  give you the strength to continue with permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragement, and impossibilities and  remember,  through,  this the Movement’s strong souls will be distinguished from the weak”.
