Congregation for Reform Chief: Saleh’s Call for Dialogue not Serious

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has last Monday leaders of political opposition parties to study what he called popular tensions that have recently emerged after a series of protests and sit-ins demanding improvements in living and social conditions.

For his part, Abdul Wahab al-Ansi, secretary general of the Islah (Congregation for Reform) political party said that Joint Meeting Parties rejected the call offered by president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Al-Ansi pointed out that Joint Meeting Parties apologized in last Sunday meeting for not participating due to changing the nature of the invitation from a friendly meeting on the occasion of the advent of Ramadan, and as part of the natural contact between the political parties and the regime to talking about an open dialogue around an open agenda for this meeting about which the Joint Meeting Parties haven”t been informed. The Joint Meeting Parties saw the way with which this meeting has been handled as establishing a policy of no seriousness in handling national issues and latest developments .

Al-Ansi confirmed in a statement to Ikhwanweb that the invitation that the Joint Meeting Parties received indicated that it will be a friendly meeting on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, and as a part of the natural contact between the political parties and the regime. However, the JMP was stunned by a media campaign that puts this meeting beyond its friendly nature.

The Secretary-General of al-Islah (Reform) Party added that:” The president”s call for dialogue is not serious. He directs from time to time such a call takes place”. He pointed that the dialogue with the ruling party is marked by sluggishness due to the ruling party.

Al-Ansi said that president Saleh”s call for dialogue isn”t serious at all and it aims actually at deceiving Yemeni opposition and stopping popular moves fighting the current corruption in the regime.

Al-Ansi confirmed that the Congregation for Reform and the Joint Meeting Parties welcome any dialogue with the ruling party but this should take place in a serious way and after a consensus over an agenda for the dialogue and that all parties reach positive results to serve Yemen, not a ceremonial dialogue that serves only the regime”s objectives.

Regarding accusations against opposition of standing behind the series of protests specially in the South governorates, al-Ansi said:”” We are a part of the Yemeni people and we are political powers that have a responsibility towards people. We do not deny that we took part in the incidents, issue statements and set dates for sit-ins and protests to implement the opposition program for establishing peaceful struggle in the country”.

Al-Ansi pointed out that those moves aim to:” Reform conditions and realize people”s  demands”. He pointed out that popular and political tensions in the country are due to” wrong policies committed by the governments of the ruling People”s Conference party throughout the last ten years”.
