Council of Free Students Formed at Mansoura University

Attended by a large number of students, the council of the Free Student Union at Mansoura University, north of Egypt, was formed, on Saturday November 18, 2006. 8 students from 14 faculties contested for secretary general, his assistant and six committees within the council which will represent the Free Student Union.


Amr Ahmed Abdul Bari, Faculty of Medicine, was chosen Secretary General, while Mohammed Abdul Wahhab, also Faculty of Medicine, was elected assistant Secretary General. Six other students were chosen heads of the council’s committees which will be entrusted with various student activities and services. After his win, the Union Secretary General gave a speech calling on students to help make a success of the Free Student Union to provide student services which will not be provided by the university appointed one.


When asked by a reporter on the finance of the Free Union, the Secretary General said that it will be self financed through donations or subscriptions of students and teaching staff. He added that the Free Student Union will- in its first session- open the door for any suggestions in favor of the issues on the arena. Regarding the advice he would like to give to students, the student Secretary General said “I want students to know that freedom does not come to us but we struggle to win it”.
