Countdown to Polls Reveals NDP Will Stop at Nothing
Hours ahead of the scheduled parliamentary election, the Egyptian High Elections Commission has failed to implement a court order to reinstate a number of opposition and independent candidates it had previously disqualified. Demonstrating its instability, the government continues to violate electoral laws and use excessive force to ensure the success of the ruling party in the polls indicating that rigging is on the NDP’s priority list.

As Washington looks on at its closest ally, tensions rise with the call for international supervision which was described by Egyptian officials as interference in its sovereignty. This, and internal instability within the ruling party, has been the reason why tensions are rising as the elections are expected to foreshadow the presidential bid in 2011.

The MB, however, is determined to participate in the elections regardless of the 1300 detainees being arbitrarily detained, the attacks on supporters of candidates, the failed attempts to intimidate the group and the restrictive regulations formed to mute the media.
