Court Cancels Morsi, Al Erian House Arrests
The Consultation Room of Cairo’s Criminal Court cancelled, on Sunday 10/12/2006, the decision of the Higher State Security Prosecution of imposing a house arrest on Dr. Mohamed Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood’s Executive Bureau member and Dr. Essam El-Erian, a top leader in the group, and it upheld the decision of releasing them, after they spent six months behind bars.
Morsi and Al Erian have been kept for six months under provisional arrest, although the investigations with them ended during the first weeks of their arrest.
The state security prosecution released Morsi and Al Erian on Saturday 9 December 2006 while imposing a house arrest aginst them!!
For his part, Abdul Monem Abdul Maqsoud, the Muslim Brotherhood’s lawyer, confirmed that today’s court ruling is a real victory for freedom after the six months that Morsi and Al Erian spent behind bars without committing any sin or guilt !!
He also considered the court ruling as rehabilitation to Morsi and Al Erian and a proof that the judiciary still carries out its rule of supporting freedom and victims and restore their rights.
Abdul Maqsood demanded the regime to take practical measures to release other prisoner of conscience whose investigations ended and are cleared of committing any offence.
