Court Twice Orders Jailed Top MB Member Released

Court Twice Orders Jailed Top MB Member Released

For the second time in months, the Zagazig State Security Court has issued a ruling acquitting Dr. Hassan al Hayawan, a prominent Zagazig University professor and senior MB member. The Court issued its ruling after a military tribunal that rejected a similar court order to release Dr. al Hawayan, ordering a retrial for him, for allegedly possessing 400 guns intended to attack judges and voters in the recent parliamentary election in Sharqeya Governorate, north of Egypt, charges which were dismissed in civilian court.

Dr. al Hayawan’s wife said in an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb that the ruling shows that her husband is innocent of the charges leveled against him, praising the Egyptian judiciary for its fairness and transparency. However, she hoped that the authorities will respect the court ruling this time.

The court ruled that the prosecution’s charges against al Hayawan were groundless, and there was no single evidence to prove the implication of al Hayawan in any of the alleged crimes, and ordered to release him. Using the emergency law, the a military prosecutor ordered Dr. al Hayawan to be detained again on September 22, a month after his release, to be retried for the same charges.

Dr. Al Hayawan is a pulmonalogy (lung diseaseses) professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University, and a co-founder of the Freedom Committee at the Sharqeya Doctors’ Syndicate, and one of the MB leading figures.
