DAE To Run In Egypt Elections Under A Single Banner
Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, member of the Executive Office of the "Freedom and Justice" party, and member of the Democratic Alliance for Egypt (DAE) coalition, announced that the DAE will have one election banner that members of the Alliance will agree upon at their next meeting.
He mentioned that the DAE (which includes almost 42 parties, led by the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)) has postponed its meeting – which was scheduled for Saturday 9 October at the FJP headquarters – until the Elections Coordination Committee completes the preparation of the final form of the electoral lists.
"Yesterday, the FJP started full coordination efforts with the DA’s parties, reviewing candidate and nominee lists. The FJP will endeavour to complete these procedures with all DA parties including the al-Ghad, Karama (Dignity), Arab Democratic Nasserist Party, Alassala, Masr Alhorreya (Freedom Egypt Party), al-Nahda, amongst others," Dr. Beltagy added.
"The Committee contacted 20 highly-regarded public figures, non-affiliated to any political parties, for getting out as lead candidates on the lists of the coalition, including counsellor Mahmoud al-Khodeiri (former chairman of the Alexandria Judges Club), Hassan Naf’aa (former coordinator of the National Assembly for Change), Diaa Rashwan (president of Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies), Amr Hashem Rabie (an expert from the same Centre), and George Isaac (former general coordinator of the Egyptian Movement For Change Kefaya)," he said.
