Dr. Amr Darrag, Secretary-General of the Constituent Assembly (CA) tasked with authoring Egypt’s new constitution, met Monday morning with a delegation of the EU’s Political and Security Committee (EUPSC) headed by its permanent chairman Olof Skoog, together with all 30 members of the EUPSC representing European countries, at the CA’s headquarters in Cairo.
The EU delegation was received by Justice Hossam Ghariani, CA Chairman, and Dr. Amr Darrag. The meeting was attended by James Moran, Ambassador of the European Union.
Dr. Darrag said: "This visit underlines the great importance that the EU attaches to democratic progress in Egypt.
"At the end of the meeting, members of the EUPSC expressed admiration for the CA’s approach in drafting the new constitution.
They also expressed confidence that Egypt’s new national charter will be a great modern constitution-making model."
The EUPSC’s visit began on Sunday, September 30, and ended on Monday, October 1. It aimed to deepen EUPSC ambassadors’ acquaintance and understanding of the ongoing developments in Egypt and the South Mediterranean region.
