Darrag: Verdict has Shocked Egyptian People; Election is a Side-Issue
Dr. Amr Darrag, Secretary General of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) in Giza and member of the party’s National Committee, asserted that today’s judgments against the former regime were shocking to the Egyptian people.
“This is the natural result of the deliberate destruction of the evidence that really condemns killers of the protesters.”
He added that the whole world witnessed, through television screens in the 18 days of the revolution, all the brutal actions and barbaric acts of the regime’s security forces, with their armored vehicles crushing unarmed citizens, killing revolutionary youths targeted by the police.
“Yet all these bloody violations were ignored in the trials of deposed Mubarak and his corrupt cronies, the symbols of the ousted regime.”
Dr. Darrag further affirmed that the FJP, as an integral part of the Egyptian people, interacts with their issues, and cannot be isolated from them, especially during critical times like these.
“The upcoming election is really a side-issue. The most important thing now is to protect the revolution and safeguard its gains.
“We will continue our constitutional struggle. We will never give up the rights of the martyrs. Dr. Mohamed Morsi, our candidate for the presidency, pledged more than once that the blood of the honorable martyrs is his own responsibility and that he will order more thorough investigations into these major and vital cases and will provide real evidence for a judicial inquiry at the highest quality in order to exact just retribution for the martyrs and the wounded against their ruthless killers and attackers.”
