Debate between a Human Rights Organization and a national newspaper on
The Forum for Development and Human Rights Dialogue (DHR) threatened to file an appeal against Al-Ahram Al-Massai newspaper, in response to an article it published on Monday, September 7, on page 5, titled the "Coalition in Funding and Division in Business!"
DHR stressed in its statement that the topic ran the article without referring to the editor, which it described as "a clear violation in journalism."
Complaints continued with the allegations of inaccuracy in published articles concerning a dinner that was held for human rights activists by the US Ambassador. The article stated that activists received funding from the US naming a few, including Saeed Abdul Hafez.
DHR denied the article, labelling it defamation, since its chairman neither went to the dinner nor received funding. The paper was given an ultimatum: "either they correct these printed mistakes within 10 days or we will resort to legal action claiming compensations for moral damage and defamation" in which Dr. Abdel Moneim Said, the head of Al-Ahram Administrative Bureau, Safwat Al-Sherif, head of the Supreme Council of the Press, Makram Mohamed Ahmed, head of journalists and Tarek Hassan, Al-Ahram’s Editor-in-Chief, all received copies.
