Detention Of MB Female Activists May Backfire

Muslim Brotherhood MP: Arresting  Muslim Brotherhood Women Wrong Message From Egyptian Regime

After 3-hour detention in a police station, Tanta prosecution released, on 500 pounds bail, three young women whom the Egyptian authorities detained yesterday while distributing leaflets supporting the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) candidate in the Shura Council midterm elections for the constituency of Tanta . The young woman are Howaida Abul Fadl, a graduate from the Faculty of Arts, Dalia Qotb, a graduate from the Faculty of Medicine and Fatma Qotb, a graduate from the veterinary medicine faculty.

Saad Al Husseini, Detention Of MB Women Red Line!

For his part, engineer Saad Al Husseini, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood parliamentary bloc condemned strongly this flagrant violation of the security forces, specially that those detained this time are young women, not men, affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood, a red line that mustn’t be crossed in the MB-security forces relation.

Al Husseini added that” the group highlights its interest in observing a self-control when it is related to arresting Muslim Brotherhood male members. But detaining MB female members is a wrong message that we fear may backfire and may have serious effect on security all over Egypt . While the Muslim Brotherhood is permanently urging young men to shun and reject all means and acts of violence, we are stunned by this unscrupulous action of arresting young women, a bizarre action in the relation between the group and the regime, not to mention traditions of our Middle East societies.

It is worth mentioning that State Security officers in Gharbiya arrested the three Muslim Brotherhood female members, Howaida Abul Fadl and Dina Qotb and Fatma Qotb in a Tanta street while they were distributing pamphlets campaigning for Al Desouki Kolaib, the MB candidate in the Shura Council midterm elections for the constituency of Tanta.

There detention stirred an uproar in a society that gives extra protection to women.

Sayyed Askar, What does the regime want?

For his part, MB parliamentarian, sheikh Sayed Askar, MP for the constituency of Tanta that the security violations crossed all limits. A Muslim Brotherhood MP was assaulted on Friday and women are detained today. What does the regime want?, wondered Askar.

Askar added that these irresponsible violations committed by the security forces may trigger a counter violence like what happened in the 1990s, presaging a huge popular uprising.

Askar demanded holding these irresponsible security leaders accountable for these actions that reflect a personal enmity and reveal ill intentions.

Hammoud’s Sit-In Ends After Interior Ministry’s Planned Apology

In a related context, MB parliamentarians showing solidarity with MP Yasser Hammoud, after he was assaulted by security forces last Thursday, decided to end their sit-in after Dr. Fathi Sorour confirmed that the Interior Ministry it will apologize for this action against the MP.

MP Ahmed Diab was quoted as saying:” The MPs were informed that a top official from the Interior Ministry that will come to the People’s Assembly on Sunday to apologize for what happened. Therefore the MPs staging the sit-in in solidarity with Hammoud decided to end the sit-in until the Interior Ministry apologizes and sends the perpetrators to justice”.
