Diplomacy and Democracy Spending In the House

The House is considering H.R.2410 this morning to authorize funding for the State Department, the United Nations and the expansion of other diplomatic programs, including the Peace Corps.

Also today, the House Rules Committee is reviewing floor debate rules for H.R.1886.  The bill aims to assist Pakistan’s counterinsurgency and anti-terrorism efforts. Importantly, it endorses social development and democracy promotion as part of this process. The bill establishes a Pakistan Democracy and Prosperity Fund “to develop knowledge of and appreciation for democratic governance and a military that is controlled by and responsible to democratically elected civilian leadership.”
