Egypt’s Security Apparatus Harassing Citizens to Smear Muslim Brotherhood

Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Barr, Theology Professor at Al Azhar University and member of the Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau, affirmed that there are desperate attempts to fabricate and circulate lies seeking to vilify and tarnish the image of the Muslim Brotherhood and moderate Islamists at large, and to scare and turn people against them, at home and abroad.

In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Al-Barr pointed out that certain security apparatus elements wore Islamic dresses and assaulted citizens, claiming to be Muslim Brotherhood or Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) members. A newspaper even claimed that the Brotherhood is creating an institution specifically for urging people to behave.

Dr. Al-Barr added, "These lies are painting a very negative image of the Muslim Brotherhood and the moderate Islamic current by political rivals who are fabricating lies and dealing aggressively and totally unfairly with those favored by the will of the people.

"We treat people as all equal. We do urge respect for the choices of Egyptian citizens, whether ideological or intellectual. And we reject calls for division and discrimination. Dialogue is the basis of our dealings with everyone."
