Egypt: 16 MB leaderships Released

Cairo Misdemeanors Court on Monday September 4, 2006, ordered the release of 16 Muslim Brotherhood leaderships who had been earlier last month arrested during their visit to atom professor Dr. Rafat Howait. The court’s ruling of release came after MB’s lawyer Abdul-Monem Abdul-Maksoud challenged the 15-day renewal internment issued by the Prosecution. The court upheld the challenge and ordered the release of the detainees who included doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers and other distinguished positions in society. Abdul Maksoud hailed the release ruling but said he hopes for further steps to be taken by the authorities to release the other detainees who are under detention on the same well-worn charge; belonging to an outlawed group.
