Egypt: 5 MB leaders arrested ahead of parliamentary nominations
In a renewed wave of state repression, security forces raided the house of Muslim Brotherhood leader Ihab Turk arresting him and 4 other MB members who were at his home at the time.
The timing of the arrests, make clear that the ruling regime is moving rapidly to suppress the possible fielding of MB candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for November. These aggressive raids are an attempt to criminalize dissent and smear the government’s critics.
Police raided the houses of the political detainees confiscating books, computers, documents and personal belongings.
