Egypt: Meat crisis continues as prices rise

Members of the Economic Affairs Committee in the people’s assembly who met yesterday to discuss the problem emphasized, that it was necessary to control the gap between supply and demand in the meat market.
Minister of Agriculture, Amin Abaza’s absence during the assembly was noticed as the members slammed his lack of responsibility in dealing with the issue.
Muslim Brotherhood MP Ossama Gado criticised the Bank for Development and Agricultural Credit and Social Fund for their diminutive role in encouraging the funding of small scale cattle breeding. Rumours that imported meats were infected, were rebuffed by Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity Hamdan Lofty who asserted that the rumours were spread by meat importers.
