Egypt: Parliamentary interrogation of government neglect during disasters.
MB MP Hamdi Hassan accused the NDP ruling party of mismanagement and carelessness. The deputy highlighted the governments continued mismanagement of resources and squandering of public funds. He added the government took advantage of its authority such as neglect of citizens during the recent floods and the current structure dilemma of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute.
Hassan asserted that investigations revealed that the loss of lives and housings of many citizens during the floods were a result of the carelessness and imprudence of the government who constructed housing in hazardous areas.
Further corruption was evident with the government’s thoughtless evacuation of patients from the Cancer institute, which may be demolished despite it being only 20 years old, because of irresponsible construction, injudicious decisions and offhand maintenance.
Hamdi asserted that 40 million LE was spent on the building illustrating further corruption stressing that it is imperative that those responsible be held accountable.
