Egypt: Court orders MB leaders released amidst doubts of government compliance

The senior leaders who were arrested by State security early February were leveled with a host of fabricated accusations by authorities. The concocted charges included the setting up of training camps to stage attacks in Egypt.

In a statement to “Ikhwanweb” defense lawyer Abdul Monem Abdul Maqsud stressed that despite the verdict history has revealed that they may be defied and the Interior Ministry may contest the rule. After the hearing Dr. Ezzat ascertained that detention was a small price to pay in exchange for reform and called on all to continue defending their cause and to follow the path of Islam which would ultimately result in the restoration of its glory. He added that the MBs continued detention was saddening but was no reason for despair for those who follow their cause and call for freedom will never be weakened by suppression or submission.

The MB has been harshly targeted by the ruling regime and escalations have continued with the impending shura and parliamentary elections which are scheduled to take place early autumn.

It is yet to be seen if authorities will respect the order which called for the release of the men who were unjustly detained simply for calling for their simplest rights as citizens.
