Egypt : Arresting A Former MP and A Member of The National Assembly for Change Fears of Pursuing Activists on Fabricated Criminal Charges

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said today that security in Alexandria has arrested the former leftist and the leader of The National Assembly for Change, Abu al-Ezz al-Hariry while in his bookshop alleging that there were illegal school books that violate the intellectual property as per the claims of the ministry of education.

Abu al-Ezz al-Hariry has organized a political protest against succession last week , when he had an argument with Moharam Bek police station officers ,known for cruelty with citizens . Some staff members of   Moharam Bek police station are being tried for torturing Khaled Said to death.

Abd al-Galeel Mostafa , coordinator of The National Assembly for Change , said,” These criminal allegations are a good excuse for political detention , al-Hariry is a distinguished political activist whom security will not miss. The reason behind his arrest is quite clear”.

Disputes have begun between the ministry of education and publishers of workbooks  for students, yet security has never arrested bookshops’ owners for distributing those books raising fears that arresting al-Hariry is the start of fabricating criminal charges for political activists calling for democracy in Egypt.

The Arabic Network said, ” It is not enough the public prosecution releases political activists who are arbitrary arrested by security . We insist on holding the police officers accountable for misuse of law and authority. Being lenient, resulted in that abduction and detention became routine and a normal practice for police officers who enjoy impunity”.
