Egypt Anti-Coup National Alliance Urges Short Friday Marches Avoiding Bloodshed
In these blessed days for our Arab and Muslim world, which unite the nation at its greatest meeting on Mount Arafat, the Anti-Coup, Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance congratulates the honorable people of Egypt on Eid Al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice and redemption, and calls on the whole nation to revive the traditions of our noble Prophet (peace be upon him) by performing Eid prayers in public squares, open fields, yards and piazzas.
The Alliance responded positively to Egyptian youth calls to march to Tahrir Square on Sunday, October 6, and appreciates the significant role played by young people in breaking the siege imposed on Tahrir Square and Rabaa Al-Adaweya by descending on the iconic liberty square with unprecedented numbers of peaceful pro-democracy demonstrators, sacrificing their precious lives in so doing, seeking God’s pleasure and freedom for the homeland.
The Alliance further responded positively to repeated calls from young people to go to Tahrir Square again on Friday, October 11, but in response to solemn pleas of many of the nation’s most loyal figures as well as many intellectuals and political actors to avoid main squares that could lead to more bloodshed, the Alliance renews its commitment to peaceful protest activities, especially since the coup regime spills the people’s blood without any respect for the law or the customs, traditions, principles and values of our great nation.
The Alliance, therefore, exhorts all Egyptians to organize for Fridays marches that avoid places where more bloodshed is anticipated, whether in Tahrir Square or elsewhere, while retaining the right of Egyptians to protest in Tahrir Square, Rabaa and Nahda in the weeks to come.
The Alliance also urges that Friday protest activities be limited to short demonstrations that end with vigils in which we make supplication to God. The Alliance further urges all to increase prayers and supplication in these blessed days and the day of Arafa, on which God accepts prayers of the faithful.
May God protect Egypt and Egyptians from all evil…
The Anti-Coup, Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance
