Egypt Parliament Approves Political Rights and Elections Laws

Egypt Parliament Approves Political Rights and Elections Laws

The Shura Council – Egypt’s second chamber of parliament – headed by Dr. Ahmed Fahmi, approved in principle the bills on House of Representatives elections and political rights.

Dr. Essam El-Erian, head of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s parliamentary bloc, said: "The FJP approves both laws, in principle. We will discuss points raised by the Constitutional Court (SC).

"We declare that we will abide by the SC’s interpretation in order to eliminate any doubt or suspicion. Because Egypt’s march towards stability must not be halted, and its parliamentary institutions must not be exposed to chaos and confusion. Now, political forces and all those who wish to run in forthcoming legislative elections must work hard to build this modern democratic state."
