Egyptian Organizations in U.S. Decide To Back Upcoming April 6 Strike
Sources from the April 6 Youth movement affirmed to Ikhwanweb that a meeting was held between representatives of Egyptian organizations in the U.S. -who had previously sent a letter to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak requesting a bundle of political reforms before his expected visit to Washington- for the second time in Arlington, Virginia to discuss their next initiatives and steps.
In the meeting, participants decided to support the April 6th strike and oppressed central security officers, and solve the religion vs. state problem by discussing the relationship between the two in the state system desired in Egypt in a way that guarantees and preserves the rights of minorities. The majority of participants voted in favor of the Turkish model of the Islamic state which separates between religion and state while giving moderate Islamists the opportunity to participate in politics at the same time. Others had a different point of view especially that which supports the text in Egypt’s Future Document addressing this issue and proposing the path of former Egyptian PM Aziz Sedky.
Participants also decided to support the April 6 strike called for by the April 6 Youth movement who had organized a similar strike last year and decided to issue a press statement announcing their support for the strike as they announced their organization of a similar strike to take place simultaneously in the American capital, Washington. Also, a follow-up team was formed from among the participants to prepare for this demonstration.
Participants also decided to support the Egyptian central security officers who are being badly treated by their bosses by means of a statement signed by them as they stood a minute of silence for the 23 officers who died as a result of carelessness and others who committed suicide because of the bad living and work conditions.
It is worthy pointing out that the participants showed the media campaigns launched against them by some government media and security apparatus followers affirming that they emphasize the importance of their initiatives. They also reaffirmed their commitment to their reform goals and urging serious discussions on the future of Egypt.
