Egyptian Security Blocks MB Annual Iftar Party
Egyptian security services have blocked the Iftar (breaking the fasting day of Ramadan) party annually held by the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group.
The Muslim Brotherhood apologized for not holding the annual Iftar party, scheduled to be held next Saturday, Ramadan, 10th (Sep, 22nd, 2007) as all political powers, prominent society figures and free writers are used to meet in this the occasion to exchange opinion and advice for the sake of the country and people. However, the Interior Ministry”s decision prevented this.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Habib, the MB first deputy chairman, said that the Muslim Brotherhood wished this Iftar would be held as usual with political figures to discuss various societal issues.
The Egyptian security services had another scheme as they exercised pressures on the hotel management to block the Iftar party, said Habib in a statement to Ikhwanweb.
Habib saw this measure as a part of media campaigns, detentions, transfers to the Military Court and freezing assets committed by the Egyptian government against the Muslim Brotherhood group .
Habib confirmed this decision tarnishes the reputation and image Egypt and gives an impression that instability prevails, something that negatively affects the political, economic and social atmosphere in our country Egypt, according to him.
