Egyptians believe Mubarak grooming son for power

With the 81 year old President Mubarak’s health under speculation due to recent surgery, the notion of his son Gamal as a contender for the upcoming presidential elections seems all too imminent. If this is to be the case, then Egypt would be the second Arab republic to follow the succession measures. However plans of any such handover have been vehemently denied by father and son

Although Gamal’s credentials differ from his former predecessors with regards to education, military pedigree and former employment, a takeover by Gamal, 46, will in fact be favoured by business executives who give him tribute for the progress towards market enterprise which began in 2004

Gamal’s support for Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel has been much appreciated and welcomed by the U.S. and other Western allies along with his unwavering criticism of  the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s biggest, strongest and most influential opposition group.
