El-Beltagi: Egypt’s Political Map in the Transitional Period on Track after Constitutional Announcement

Dr. Mohamed El-Beltagy, senior Brotherhood figure and a member of the Youth Coalition, has ascertained that the recently announced interim constitutional declaration is unimpeachable but its details have elicited various responses in the political arena.

In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, El-Beltagui argued that the constitutional announcement put an end to the 71 Constitution, triggering analytical discussions on Egypt’s political map in the transitional period to be in line with the prevailing political climate after the revolution. He clarified that it is a step in the right direction that cleared away the negative effects resulting from the referendum process between those who supported voting yes and no.

Saed Ahmed Abu Baraka, a member of the MB Legal Committee, said the declaration developed a constitutional framework setting out the powers of the state’s rights, duties, judicial and executive branches as well as the rule of law.

The declaration establishes clear general rules for the functionality of the state and recognizes basic personal freedoms and rights. The articles also lay down the rule of law and the system of the government in the transitional phase he said.

He added that the Constitutional Declaration denies absolute powers in the post-revolution period for constitutional institutions.
