Emergency State In Egypt And More Prisoners Of Conscience Gamal Heshmat Should Be Released At Once
The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, ANHRI, deeply resents and refuses the repressing illegal measures and procedures indifferent of court decisions taken by the Egyptian security authorities where an arrest order was issued for Gamal Heshmat and 12 others right after a release order has been issued from the court in Damanhur.
On 27/9/2009, security authorities in Damanhur arrested Gamal Heshmat and 12 others. After investigations, prosecution ordered a fifteen day detention in custody after accusing them of joining a prohibited group “Muslim brotherhood” ,possessing publications to revive the group principles and planning for an overthrow.
Misdemeanors appeal court in Damanhour ordered them to be released three days ago. However, the prosecution objected to the release order. The court endorsed the release order as a final decision. So, security authorities arrested Gamal Heshmat and his companions and move them to Wadi El Natrun prison.
ANHRI asserted that the accusations against Gamal Heshmat are quite consumed. The same set of accusations are used by security against political opponents in obvious disrespect of law and court decisions.
Gamal Heshmat and his companions joined the long list of prisoners of conscience in Egypt. Having committed no felony ,they are detained for their political or religious orientations. Support and solidarity is what they need till they are released
Gamal Heshmat is a PhD holder since 1993, a former MP for two sessions last of which was in 2000.
According to Noha Al Zeiny , the judge , elections were rigged in Damanhour in favour of the Democratic party nominee , Mustafa Al Fiqy.
