Erian: FJP Final Position on Coalitions and Alliances after Elections Law Approval

Dr. Essam El-Erian, head of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) parliamentary bloc in the Shura Council (upper house of Egypt’s parliament) and Vice-Chairman of the FJP, said: "The party’s Executive Office has not decided on what form of coalition or alliance would be the most appropriate for the upcoming elections. However, it has set a general framework for nomination mechanisms within the party’s various secretariats across Egypt’s provinces. The FJP’s Development and Planning Committee will be tasked with developing a vision for the FJP’s election platform. This will be mostly a background for the government’s program, if we gain the confidence of the people and an appropriate majority.
"Now, there are decentralized efforts to understand the nature of all constituencies. All FJP secretariats in Egyptian governorates are to study the electoral nature of each constituency so we can decide the form of central alliance needed. I believe once the election law reaches the Supreme Constitutional Court, we can begin the pursuit of coalitions. Everyone is waiting for the law; and so are we."
