Erian: Parliament Approval of House Bill Important Step in Building State Institutions

Egypt’s Shura Council (SC, upper house of parliament) gave its final approval of two bills: political rights and House of Representatives elections, submitted by the government.

MP Sobhi Saleh, member of the SC’s Legislative Committee, said: "On Sunday, the SC will send the bills to the Constitutional Court, applying the new constitution on prior oversight."

For his part, Dr. Essam Erian, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Vice Chairman, affirmed that final SC approval of the laws Thursday launches Egypt in a new phase of rebuilding all state institutions.

"Within months, construction of the legislative authority will be completed. After the House of Representatives elections, a broad-based government will be formed, of honorable patriotic and capable figures, along with a responsible opposition, in order to build our modern democratic Egypt, with the rotation of power achieved through the ballot box periodically."
