European institutions: Egypt’s iron wall only serves Israel
European institutions supporting the Palestine cause have issued a statement on Saturday asserting that the Egyptian iron wall along the borders with the Gaza Strip was only serving the Israeli’s interest.
The statement reported that the wall was sending a wrong message and placing a question mark on the Egyptian authorities’ positions.
It noted that the completion of the wall would associate the Egyptian and Israeli stands regarding the siege on Gaza.
The statement stressed that the Egyptian decision was met with dismay on the part of the European institutions, which hoped that Cairo would open the Rafah border crossing with Gaza rather than build a wall to block the smuggling of food and medicine to the people of Gaza.
It finally called on the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to make an immediate decision to cancel the building of the wall and to open the Rafah terminal permanently.
