Extending Detention of MB Professor, Eight Media Figures

State Security Prosecution decided on Sunday to extend detention of professor of Hadith at Al- Azhar University Dr. Abdurrahman Abdul-Barr and other eight media figures for 15 days.

This decision is the third against the group of MB media activists on charges of joining the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood and using satellite channels for promoting the group’s ideologies.

They were detained when state security forces stormed Abdul-Barr’s house in the presence of the media cast who went to film religious TV shows with him. On arrest, forces assaulted Belal Mohamed Abdurrahman, TV presenter at EL-Nas and El-Hafez private channels.

Jailed media figures are Walid Mustafa Bakri, Mohamed Ashraf Abdul-Aal, Belal Mohamed Abdurrahman, Walid Abdul-Fattah (Cairo), Walid Mohamed El-Genedi (Giza), Khalid Hamid Mohamed (Beni Swaif), Khalid Abu El-Magd, and Hussein Abdul-Azim (Monufyia). Yusuf Talaat was released.
