Family of Detained Journalist Badr: Prison Administration Bans Medical care, Visitations
The family of the detained journalist Badr Mohamed Badr affirmed he is denied essential medical treatment and medicine; and demanded Journalists Syndicate and rights activists intervene urgently to save his life.
The family also urged the Syndicate of Journalists and all those concerned with human rights to move urgently to stop the tragic deterioration his health has suffered due to total lack of medical care where he is being detained at Istiqbal Prison in the notorious Tora Prison Complex. Badr suffers from liver damage and high blood sugar.
Moreover, since his arrest and enforced disappearance on March 29 (2017), Badr was subjected to severe torture, which he has not yet recovered from. The prison administration does not provide any of the necessary medical treatment or the medicines he needs for his condition, especially is in extremely squalid cell conditions, which makes his health deteriorates at an even faster pace. Meanwhile, the prison administration banned all visits from Badr’s family, which means no-one can bring him life-saving medicines. Needless to say, this puts his life in real danger.
The family reiterated its appeal for urgent intervention, especially by the Journalists Syndicate Board and all rights advocates, to help provide a healthy environment for him, and to provide him with necessary medical treatment and essential medicines, in addition to his inherent right to freedom and fair trial. He is being held in custody on trumped up charges, all based on his professional and journalistic work in the media.
