Faramawi Released Without Bail

North Cairo Criminal Court headed by judge Mohamed Alaa al-Mansi has acquitted on Sunday Professor Abdul-Haii Al-Faramawi who has been arrested on Tuesday April 22nd 2008 and accused of joining an outlawed group and helping Hamas develop an unmanned airplane for unknown attacks.

He has been ordered released without any guarantees by the court. Faramawi is the only one to be released in this case no. 500 in 2008 Supreme State Security, that included Dr. Mohamed Emad (physician), Mohamed Taha Wahdan (professor at Agriculture faculty of Suez university), and Bassam Adel Mahmoud (activist in the relief movement).

“I did not commit any of these trumped up charges; I have never been to Gaza, nor met with the witness brought by Al Arish SSI,” Faramawi defended him self at the court.

Nasser Al-Hafi, Faramawi’s lawyer, stressed to the court that the charges against Faramawi were all fabricated by the state security investigations. Al-Hafi rebutted all procedures of arrest and inspection as well as investigations record for including concocted information about the convicted.

Faramawi, 70 years old, suffers from poor health conditions including hepatitis and comas. Lately, he has been staying in bed due to poorer health status.

Lawyer Abdul-Monem Abdul-Maqsoud told Ikhwanweb that all charges against Faramawi are groundless and fabricated and we hope that the ministry of interior would swiftly release him according to the decision passed by the court.
