Farwana: 350 Jerusalemites detained in IOA in jails without any rights

GAZA — The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) is detaining 350 Jerusalemites in its jails including four females without according them any rights, Abdul Nasser Farwana, an expert in prisoners affairs, said.

Farwana, in a report published on Tuesday, said that 12 of those prisoners had completed their 23rd year in detention, adding that 14 Jerusalemite prisoners died in captivity.

He said that the IOA deals with those prisoners as citizens of Israel but would not accord them the treatment extended to Israeli prisoners. They are treated as Palestinians as far as the cruel incarceration conditions are concerned and at the same time are denied releases in prisoners’ exchange deals because they are dealt with as Israeli homicide convicts, the researcher elaborated.

Farwana described the imprisonment conditions of those Jerusalemites as "complicated and tragic", adding that the captors of the Israeli corporal Gilad Shalit should include them in the exchange deal in its capacity as the sole method for their liberation from prison.
