Fears of rigging in students’ body election ahead of parliamentary elections

Dr. Ahmed Diab, Secretary General of the MB parliamentary bloc, asserted that “universities in Egypt have become a tool used by state security authorities to persecute students affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) opposition group”
In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, Diab ascertained that it is literally unfeasible that real students’ body elections will take place and reflect the students’ genuine will and desire amid such forms of authoritarianism”.
According to the MB Secretary-General Mahmoud Hussein “police threats to students should not hinder the MB students from contesting the polls despite the security’s harassment against them.
He called on students however to defend the students’ right to vote through only peaceful and legal means, stressing that once students unite, nothing can defeat them.
Diab stressed that Egypt ‘s oppressive police system and violations against opposition students in the Egyptian universities is meant to send a warning message that rigging measures will prevail.
