FJP: Popular Current, Former Regime Mob Behind Violence Against Pro-Democracy Conference
An armed attack on a conference organized by the Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate in support of democracy is blamed on the so-called Popular Current – founded by the losing presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi – and former regime holdovers.
In a statement, the party affirmed that thugs fired live bullets, birdshot and Molotov cocktails at the conference audience including women and children, without regard for morals, conscience or religion, creating a state of terror and panic among them.
Then, a group of thugs attempted to break into the conference hall, armed with swords, machetes and switchblades. They attacked the audience, wounding dozens. Needless to say, this put an end to the conference just as it was starting.
The FJP statement wondered why should those attack a conference that expresses opinions in a peaceful manner? And why should they go to the venue of the conference in the first place?
By contrast, the statement went on, a media icon held a conference in the same place, last week, where he poured all sorts of obscene curses and insults at the President and the Muslim Brotherhood, and no-one attacked him in any way.
The FJP said that this attack unmasks the utter lies of the opposition’s peaceful slogans, wondering about the role of the police who are mostly absent, leaving the scene open to thugs, and failing to intervene to protect peaceful citizens.
