FJP and Democratic Alliance to Discuss Election Law Drafted by SCAF
The Democratic Alliance has scheduled an emergency meeting for Sunday July 24 to discuss the law amendments concerning the parliamentary elections issued last week by the SCAF.
Some of the provisions of the drafted law and particularly the mechanism of the party-list list and the individual candidacy systems of 50% each were not welcomed by the alliance which calls for respecting the people’s will.
According to the Alliance which is made up of the Freedom and Justice Party and 28 other political parties, a closed party-list of proportional representation in the upcoming elections was more appropriate to prevent remnants of the old regime and corrupt businessmen from infiltrating voters.
The meeting will be held at the Wafd Party’s headquarters in Cairo.
