FJP Calls for Immediate Investigation Into Israeli Ambush
Vice President of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Dr. Rafiq Habib described the Israelis’ "regret" for the deaths of the Egyptian policemen and soldiers during the Israeli attack on Egyptian borders " unacceptable and inappropriate."
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak was reported saying that Israel regrets the deaths of Egyptian policemen who were killed by Israeli Army, but falling short from directly assuming responsibility.
Habib stated that although Israeli’s statement is no official apology, Israelis have come to realize that Egyptians will no longer remain silent. Apathy has been abandoned following the January 25 Revolution and a new Egypt has emerged. He added that an immediate investigation into the killings is imperative, and Israel must inform Egyptian authorities of its results, and those responsible for the crime must be prosecuted.
