FJP Chief Katatni: Supply Inspectors Killings Attempt to Stop Fight Against Corruption

In less than 24 hours, detectives in Beheira (north of Cairo) managed to unravel the mysteries of the murder of two supply inspectors after they conducted an inspection campaign Monday in that province. It transpired that the perpetrators were the owner of a bakery and his brother, angry that the victims had fined them for supply offences.

Bassem Ouda, Supply Minister, issued an order to pay immediate compensations to the victims’ families whom he visited personally to offer his condolences. Ahead of that visit, Nasser Al-Farash, Supply Ministry adviser took part in the funeral of the deceased.

Separately, a delegation from the Presidency visited the victims’ families, Tuesday afternoon, to offer support and condolences. Meanwhile, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) in Beheira expressed appreciation for the speedy arrest of the culprits, calling for the protection of supply inspectors as they perform their vital duties of spotting violations and abuses of the system of supplies and subsidies.

Dr. Saad Katatni, FJP Chairman, said: "Shooting at supply inspectors, killing two of them, is part of an organized campaign to protect the pillars of corruption being demolished by the January 25 Revolution.

"These desperate crimes by the emperors of corruption will not discourage honest people of this country from doing their duty towards their homeland and detect crimes."

Earlier on Monday, a car carrying two government officials (Supply Inspectors) and their driver was ambushed on the outskirts of Beheira province after an unannounced visit to a number of bakeries involved in illegal practices where they fined the owners for various offences.
