FJP Receives French Ambassador in Cairo
Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), received the French Ambassador in Cairo, Wednesday evening (9/November/2011), in the context of dialogue on the FJP’s vision of upcoming elections and the government after the elections as well as post-revolution Egypt’s international relations.
The French ambassador stated that his government would not resist dealing with any government resulting from the parliamentary elections, whether Islamist, liberal, or any other political currents in Egypt, adding that the basis of dealing with any government is the extent of its popular legitimacy.
Regarding the government expected after the upcoming elections, Dr. Mohamed Morsi emphasised the importance of forming a coalition government that reflects the political parliamentary majority elected by the people, with proportional representation reflecting the will of the voters. He pointed out that the Democratic Alliance, which includes 12 parties, is seeking a parliamentary majority in order to form a coalition government of these parties – perhaps in addition to other parties – which should secure the support of the Parliament.
He added that the mood in post-revolution Egypt will not allow a dictatorial government. Then he called upon the military council (SCAF) to deal with the parliamentary majority in the context of total integration for the sake of serving the higher interests of the nation.
Dr. Morsi stressed the importance of holding elections in an atmosphere of democracy and with impartiality and integrity, as the first free elections in Egypt in six decades.
Dr. Morsi also stressed to the French Ambassador the importance of listening to all political stakeholders in Egypt, including the Islamic movement that seeks to build a civil state with Islamic reference aiming to uphold the values ??of Islam, without derogating from the rights of any party.
In conclusion, Dr. Morsi expressed his wish for Egypt’s international relations to progress further, stating that these relations shall be on the basis of mutual respect and balance on the political, economic and social levels.
