Flotilla ship to deliver aid to Pakistan

The ship will carry 3,000 tons of humanitarian supplies including, medicine, food, generators and tents to Pakistan as the country is in desperate need of assistance following weeks of devastating floods, The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation said on its website.

Floods across Pakistan have claimed over 1,600 lives so far and have directly affected nearly 20 million people. Millions of people have been rendered homeless and vast areas of farmland have been destroyed.

The Turkey-based IHH said the ship will leave for Pakistan once the United Nation Commission investigation into the May 31st Israeli attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla is completed.

Nine civilian activists were killed and many others were wounded when Israeli commandos attacked the Mavi Marmara, the lead ship in the flotilla, in international waters. The aid ships were trying to break the crippling Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

A team of UN experts are now investigating Israel’s deadly attack on the Turkish-flagged humanitarian convoy. The fact-finding mission is expected to present its findings in September.

Activists onboard the Mavi Marmara say the Israeli troops opened fire as soon as they boarded the ship.
