Foiled Arrest Against Afaq Arabiya’s Editor-In-Chief
The State Security Police forces raided on Wednesday the Cairo-based Al-Shorouk media company to arrest Adel Al Ansari, the manager of the company and ex-editor-in-chief of Afaq Arabiya newspaper.
Al Ansari, 48 years, is one of the most prominent Muslim Brotherhood media leaders. He was editor –in-chief of Afaq Arabiya and projects manager in Islamonline network.
In a phone call with Ikhwanweb, Adel Al Ansari said that he was phoned by one of his employees in the company at 7.30 AM CLT to inform him that the security forces stormed into the company, closed it and took the door keys and that they are coming to his house to arrest him.
“I stayed in my house for about two hours waiting for the security forces but they did not come. So I began to do may daily duties. I am no striking in the Press Syndicate until I see the result of this farce and what this dictatorial and repressive regime wants” Al Ansari added .
Al Ansari pointed out that there is no elections in his constituency to expect that this raid is due to the elections. “My job as a journalist makes me describe what is happening in these elections. We are actually witnessing a farce in the full meaning of the word. They are imposing more restrictions on the freedom of expression and imposing restrictions on my job as a journalist .
Al Ansari added there a sit-in is held on Wednesday evening, June, 6th 2007, at 6.00PM in the Press Syndicate in solidarity with him till the end of this farce .
