Alleged raid on home in Kabul sparks protests as four from same family die

FOREIGN forces have sparked more mass protests after soldiers allegedly stormed a residential house in Kabul and killed a husband, his wife and two of their children.

Residents in the Hotkhil area of the capital took to the streets and blockaded the Kabul-Jalalabad Highway on Monday morning after foreign troops carried out the alleged midnight raid.

Pictures taken by Quqnoos.com show the bloody body of the husband and the dead bodies of the two children.

Eye-witnesses said foreign soldiers began the raid by throwing grenades into the house before firing shots into the rooms.

The wife died from her wounds in hospital at about 11.30am.

Residents said the dead husband’s two brothers and his father were arrested during the alleged raid.

NATO and coalition forces were unavailable for comment.

Protestors demanded the government punish the foreign troops who carried out the alleged killings and vowed to continue their demonstrations until the arrested men were released from custody.

Ten days ago, a coalition bombing raid in the western province of Herat killed as many as 90 civilians, including 60 children, sparking violent district-wide protests against foreign troops.

Parliament condemned the coalition for the Herat killings, urging its generals to refrain from acting unilaterally in the future.

As many as 1,000 civilians have been killed in Taliban-related violence this year, the Agency Co-ordinating Body for Afghan Relief said.
