Freedom and Justice Party Discusses Status of Women in Arab Parliaments with Moroccan Delegation
The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Women’s Secretariat in Cairo received a delegation of Moroccan parliamentarian women to discuss ways of cooperation between them and the status of women in Arab parliaments.
The FJP Women’s Secretariat in Cairo said in a statement:
The meeting discussed the status of Arab women in parliaments, and how this is achieved through their actual capabilities and not through a quota imposed on society. Indeed, women are an effective element in society, with outstanding positive interaction in all fields of political and societal activities.
This meeting is part of an effort to exchange experiences in the fields of politics, and to discuss the importance of support for Arab women in the wake of Arab Spring revolutions and changes, in order to enable them to participate positively in building real renaissance for their country, their homeland.
Moroccan women enjoy a higher participation rate in parliament, amounting to more than 10%, while Egyptian women’s participation in parliament does not exceed 2%.
The meeting also discussed the role of Moroccan women in the Justice and Development Party, where a female party leader is the Minister of Family and Women Affairs – a position through which she provides support for Moroccan women. This Ministry also exists in the Gaza Cabinet, but Egyptian women still look forward to it in Egypt.
