Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP); and Dr. Essam Al-Haddad, FJP Foreign Relations Committee Officer, received on Monday, 9 April 2012, Mr. Jaffar Abdullah Sheikh Ahmed, Ambassador of the Comoros in Cairo and permanent representative to the League of Arab States, at the FJP headquarters in Cairo.
Dr. Morsi welcomed the Comoros’ ambassador, expressing his appreciation for his courteous visit, and stressing that Egypt is keen to cooperate with everyone for construction and development. The FJP’s Chairman underscored the depth of bilateral relations between Egypt and the Comoros and the importance of bolstering cooperation between the two countries through exchange of experiences, transfer of expertise, and expanding economic cooperation and trade and full diplomatic representation.
The two sides discussed features of the political scene in Egypt, especially since the country is facing presidential elections considered a major turning point for Egypt.
For his part, Ambassador Jaffar Abdullah Sheikh Ahmed congratulated the FJP on the confidence the Egyptian people have placed in them, as evident in the results of recent parliamentary elections. He also underlined the importance of bilateral relations between Egypt and the Comoros, and expressed hope for Egypt to successfully cross the transition phase, and to achieve political and economic stability after the presidential election.
The ambassador of the Comoros hailed the move of the FJP to nominate Dr. Mohamed Morsi for the presidency despite the presence of the Brotherhood candidate Khairat Al-Shater, describing the decision as wise and necessary for this phase.
The Comoros’ ambassador expressed his delight at meeting with the FJP’s Chairman, calling the “Freedom and Justice” Egypt’s leading party. He also expressed his country’s readiness to boost bilateral relations between Egypt and the Comoros in all fields.
